Palm kernel shells, rice husk, empty fruit bunch, and similar residues are frequently burned in the open or left to decompose, releasing CO₂, methane, and harmful air pollution. Channelled into energy and biochar, they are put to productive use instead.

Yes, in many cases. Coal-fired power plants can be retrofitted to co-fire biomass (burning a mix of coal and biomass) or converted to run on 100% biomass. However, biomass has different energy density, moisture content, and ash characteristics, so handling and storage systems may need adjustments.
Coal is a fossil fuel formed over millions of years, while biomass is organic material (like wood pellets, agricultural residue, or energy crops) that can be regrown. The key difference is that biomass is considered renewable and carbon-neutral, because the CO₂ released during combustion is roughly equal to what the plants absorbed while growing.
